Othonna capensis, commonly known as the Ruby Necklace or Little Pickles, is a striking succulent known for its vibrant and colorful foliage and trailing growth. Native to South Africa.
Growth Habit: Ruby Necklace features long, slender stems that can grow several feet in length, trailing or cascading beautifully over the edges of containers or hanging baskets.
Leaf Characteristics: The leaves of Othonna capensis are small, cylindrical, and resemble little pickles, hence one of its common names. They are a deep, glossy green but can turn to shades of purple or rich ruby red when exposed to bright sunlight or cooler temperatures.
Hanging Baskets: Ideal for hanging baskets where its trailing stems and colorful leaves can cascade down dramatically.
Container Gardening: Perfect for spilling over the edges of mixed containers or as the focal plant in a solo pot.
Ground Cover: In frost-free regions, it can be used as a vibrant ground cover, spreading quickly to fill spaces with color.
Drought Tolerance: Like many succulents, Othonna capensis is drought-tolerant, needing only occasional watering once established.
