Euphorbia caput-medusae 'Medusa', often referred to simply as Medusa's Head, is a Euphorbia caput-medusae, commonly known as Medusa's Head, is a captivating and unique succulent native to the coastal regions of South Africa. This fascinating plant is named after the mythical Gorgon Medusa.
The Medusa's Head features a thick, central stem, known as a caudex, which serves as a water storage organ. From this caudex, numerous snake-like branches radiate outwards, creating a dense and tangled appearance. These branches are typically green to bluish-green in color and are covered in small, scale-like leaves that are often shed as the plant matures.
In the spring and summer, Euphorbia caput-medusae produces small, yellow-green flowers at the tips of its branches. While the flowers are not particularly showy, they add a subtle touch of interest to the plant's overall appearance.
This succulent is well-adapted to arid environments and thrives in full sun exposure and well-draining soil. It is drought-tolerant and requires minimal watering, making it a low-maintenance choice for succulent enthusiasts and collectors.
