Cacti - Pincushion Cactus #45
The Pincushion Cactus, scientifically known as Mammillaria, is a diverse and fascinating genus of cacti native to Mexico and the southwestern United States. These charming cacti are beloved for their compact, globular or cylindrical shapes, dense covering of spines, and beautiful, often colorful flowers.
Appearance:
Shape and Size: Pincushion cacti exhibit a wide range of shapes and sizes, with some species remaining small and solitary while others form large clusters or mounds.
Tubercles and Spines: Instead of ribs, these cacti have tubercles. The tubercles are covered in clusters of spines, which can vary in color, length, and density depending on the species.
Flowers: One of the most appealing aspects of Pincushion cacti is their stunning floral display. During the spring and summer months, they produce rings of small, brightly colored flowers encircling the crown of the plant. Flower colors include shades of pink, red, yellow, and white.
Growth Habits and Care:
Sunlight: Pincushion cacti thrive in full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Requires well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix.
Watering: Water moderately during the growing season (spring and summer), allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. In winter, reduce watering significantly as the cactus goes dormant.
Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures but can tolerate brief periods of cool temperatures if kept dry.
This Plant comes in a 130mm diameter container and the plant you see is the plant you get. The plant will be shipped bare rooted.
