Sempervivum tectorum 'Little Ruby', also known as Hens and Chicks, is a delightful, low-growing succulent that adds a touch of vibrant color to any rock garden, container, or green roof. This charming cultivar is admired for its compact rosettes of fleshy leaves, which boast a beautiful blend of green and ruby-red hues.

Appearance:

  • Leaves: Thick, succulent leaves arranged in tight, symmetrical rosettes. The leaves are typically green at the base, gradually transitioning to a vibrant ruby-red color towards the tips, creating a stunning gradient effect. The tips of the leaves may also have a slightly pointed or elongated shape.

  • Size: Each individual rosette typically grows to about 2-3 inches in diameter. However, the plant as a whole can spread significantly as it produces numerous offsets, or "chicks," creating a mat-like groundcover.

Growth Habits and Care:

  • Sunlight: Thrives in full sun to partial shade. Ample sunlight exposure enhances the ruby-red coloration of the leaves.

  • Soil: Prefers well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix.It can even grow in rocky or gravelly soil.

Watering: Drought-tolerant once established; water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly in winter.

  • Temperature: Highly cold-hardy, tolerating temperatures well below freezing.

  • Maintenance: Minimal maintenance required.

The succulent plant housed in the black pot comes in a 130mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
