Succulent Blooms

I do love spring, a time for growth and great weather…

…It is also when lots of plants come into flower. Succulents however don’t always bloom in spring, some wait till autumn and even flower during the winter when colours are at their best. They can be really quite beautiful but some are insignificant and not very attractive at all. Like all plants they flower to attract pollinators, nature’s way of ensuring their survival. Some succulents do die after they send out a bloom, these plants are called Monocarpic plants, meaning they die after they flower. Both Agave and Aeoniums fall into this category. Fortunately they send out lots of pups before this happens ensuring the plants survival.

Let’s have a look at some of the beautiful flowering succulents…

I often cut off succulent blooms and keep them in a vase (no water) inside the house. They last for weeks and look stunning.
