Succulents and Rain

Succulents and Rain

Echeveria Dark Vader looking stunning.

Succulents Online is situated in one of the wettest places in South East Queensland, we have had over 90 inches of rain since the beginning of the year.

Succulents actually love rain but how much can they handle?

Having rich red volcanic soil helps as it is very well draining. But what if you have clay-based soil? Clay based soils hold moisture and can be difficult to grow succulents in. However, you can still grow succulents successfully in this type of soil. The trick is to add extra products into the soil prior to planting. Perlite, diatomaceous earth granules, coarse sand are all great additives to make your soil drain better. Then you have to build small mounds before putting your plants into the soil. This allows the root systems to sit above the clay soils, so they are not sitting in water clogged medium.
