It is just as well known as a jungle cactus, and adds a tropical feel to any space, indoors and esteemed for its rarity. This plant has soft and cascading branches well suitable for the hanging baskets where the slendery segmented stem flows gracefully. The Rhipsalis Goebeliana, however, is found in tropical forests, and, unlike most known cacti, it does not require direct sunlight and low humidity. When you purchase a Rhipsalis Goebeliana plant, you get an interesting addition to the interior, which does not require special attention and care from its owner. Due to its rather delicate look and uncomplicated care, it is perfect for first-time plant owners and those who have been in the plant caring business for a while.

This is a unique Rhipsalis that prefers neglect and can go for months without water and it is ideal for people with little time for their plants. It’s a perfect choice for use in the bathroom or in a room that has abundant natural light but not the direct sunlight. It might flower during winter and produce tiny white flowers which enhance the beauty of the plant. Popular for being friendly to pets, the Baker’s Rush also does not pose any threat to cats and dogs, making it an excellent and interesting houseplant.

Appearance:

  • Stems: The plant features numerous, slender, and pendulous stems that branch profusely, creating a cascading waterfall of foliage. The stems are segmented into flattened, oval, or paddle-shaped sections with slightly scalloped edges. These segments are typically a vibrant green but may develop a reddish tinge when exposed to brighter light conditions.

  • Size: Rhipsalis goebeliana can grow several feet long, making it ideal for hanging baskets or trailing over shelves and furniture.

  • Flowers: In spring and summer, small, white, or cream-colored flowers bloom along the edges of the stem segments. These delicate flowers add a touch of beauty to the plant, and are followed by small, white, berry-like fruits.

Growth Habits and Care:

  • Light:

  • Thrives in bright, indirect light or filtered shade.

  • Soil:Being an epiphyte, it prefers a well-draining, airy potting mix designed for orchids or bromeliads. Alternatively, a mix of peat moss and perlite works well.

  • Watering: Water regularly during the growing season, keeping the soil slightly moist but not soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out slightly between waterings

  • Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures between 60-80°F (15-27°C).

Additional Information:

  • Rhipsalis goebeliana is a relatively fast-growing epiphytic cactus, making it a great choice for those seeking a quick and easy way to add greenery to their space.

  • It is a popular choice for hanging baskets, terrariums, or as a trailing plant in mixed containers.
