Bridgesii Monstrose- 'Penis Cactus'

Penis Cactus – scientifically known as Echinopsis lageniformis f. monstrose, is one of the most popular and rare cacti types called Bridgesii Monstrose. It has a rather funny shape, that’s why it has such a name – Penis Cactus; this makes the plant rather unique and desired. This cactus originates from Bolivia and grows without any specific pattern characterized by creating numerous branches in the form of thick and smooth segments that has elongated shape rather than columnar like most of the cacti.

Bridgesii Monstrose succulent grows at a very slow rate and at fully matured, it can grow up to 1 to 1.5 meters tall. It has a twisted and knobby branch pattern making it an interesting sculpture for every garden or indoor decorations. It has a very strange appearance, but it’s quite easy to care for and very drought tolerant preferring bright indirect light and little water. This cactus also has the ability to grow some stunning white flowers, which open at night during the spring and summer months.

This cactus is drought-tolerant and should be watered sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. During the winter months, it benefits from a period of rest with reduced watering.Due to its unique shape and intriguing appearance, the Bridgesii Monstrose is often a centerpiece in cactus gardens, rock gardens, or as a stand-alone specimen.

The Bridgesii Monstrose cactus is characterized by its irregular and contorted growth pattern. It often develops multiple twisted and elongated stems that can vary in thickness and curvature. The stems are typically ribbed and may have occasional spines or bumps along their surface.

Trichocereus Bridgesii monstrose is also know as the ‘penis cactus’. Grows to approx. 60 cm tall and branches out from the bottom. Forms short clumping stem segments and is quite cold hardy. Does really well in containers as a specimen plant but can also do well in gardens if the soil is well draining. Likes morning to full sun, just be careful of sunburn in hot summers.
