Fockea Edulis is a very special and, indeed, an extremely rare kind of caudiciform succulent which grows in Southern Africa. This mound is famous for the peculiarally thickened stem, which is waterlogged and provides the plant with water in desert conditions. The Fockea Edulis forms a large, tuberous caudex which over time can become rather huge and it is for this reason that it is becoming increasingly popular amongst succulent collectors. From its twisted trailing tendrils and small green leaves it has pretty aesthetic which is ideal to match any succulent garden or indoor plant.
It grows very slowly, and while it is not low maintenance, it is not especially difficult to look after. This plant prefers growing in loamy soils that dry out quickly and requires very little irrigation and no water during the winter. Fockea Edulis grows best in partial shade but can take some direct sunlight at specific times of the year, if it is gradually exposed to the sunlight. With time, the caudex becomes enlarged and forms a different structure that makes a sculptural, which makes the cactus the focal point of a collection.
