Cereus Monstrose
The Cereus Monstrose, known as the Monstrose Apple Cactus or the Pen and Ink Cactus is a fascinating and rather exclusive kind of cactus. Originating from South America, it grows in an asymmetrical, winding way, making it grow in an interesting way.
Appearance :
Shape: The most noticeable thing about this type of cactus is that its has a winding, uneven and unpredictable appearance. Stems tend to be contorted, coiled, and spiraled therefore making the art piece to have some abstract features.
Color: The stems are usually bluish green or gray green in color in most of the species of this group.
Spines: It also has colorful areoles (small bumps) that bear sharp spines that may differ in size and hair like formation.
Size: This cactus also can be quite huge at maturity attaining a couple of feet in height and diameter.
Flowers: It may develop gigantic, white, night-blooming flowers under the correct circumstances, a little hint of sophistication to the odd flowering plant.
Growth Habits and Care:
Sunlight: Grows best where the climate is warm and it is planted in an area that receives full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Must be grown in purely sandy soil, preferably cactus or any succulent growing mixture.
Watering: During the growing season (spring and summer its recommended that they be watered moderately and allowed to dry before being watered again. Finally, the cactus is already a dormant plant in the winter; thus, you shouldwater it very sparingly.
Temperature: Prefers warm water but if there is a little cold water should not last for a long time and water should not be still. Protect from frost.
