Kalanchoe Tomentosa Golden Girl

The Kalanchoe Tomentosa Golden Girl often referred to as the Panda Plant due to its soft hairs on the leaves similar to the panda’s yes is a unique variety of Kalanchoe that has left elves of a pretty golden green color. A feature of this plant is its chubby and velvety leaves with reddish-brown margins that provide a combination of discreet and classy appearance. It is originally from Madagascar and grows in zones 10 and 11 this ever popular succulent is valued for its texture and the appearance of its leaves. Kalanchoe Tomentosa ‘Golden Girl’ grows very slowly and can approximately grow to about 30cm or 12 in tall, making it great as house plant or Bonsai plant, or for any succulent collection.

This plant needs to be placed in the location with bright, indirect light and the soil should be slightly dry so that the plant will not rot easily for it’s suitable for beginners. Apparently, one should water very sparingly allowing the soil to dry between watering, because the plant is rather xerophytically adapted. While it is unlikely to flower inside, when placed in a suitable position outdoors it will produce small tubular flowers in spring or summer. The Kalanchoe Tomentosa ‘Golden Girl’ stands out with a more subtle hue, a soft golden – which puts this succulent on the list of favorites for those who collect such plants.

Appearance:

• Leaves: Thick, oblong leaves covered in dense, fuzzy hairs, giving them a velvety texture. The leaves are primarily a vibrant green, with the tips adorned with a striking golden-yellow hue. The leaf edges are often lined with small, brown spots.  

• Size: Relatively compact, typically growing to about 12-18 inches tall and wide, making it suitable for containers and smaller gardens.

Growth Habits and Care:

• Sunlight: Thrives in bright, indirect light, but can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially in the morning or late afternoon.

• Soil: Requires well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix, to prevent root rot.

• Watering: Water thoroughly when the soil is dry, allowing it to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.  

• Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 60-75°F (15-24°C). Protect from frost.

• Maintenance: Minimal maintenance required.
